10. A second group of Lutheran Students worked at Calvary to refinish wood panels and pews. This group of students were from Puerto Rico. My eyes were filled with tears that they had come to Houston to help us with Harvey restoration when they had experienced such devastation at their home. Yet, I knew that they felt honored to be here. They worked faithfully and diligently in the church and transformed our sanctuary. One young man’s mother has terminal bone cancer and this trip was a respite for him. We chatted a little and before he left he gave me a big hug and a miniature flag from his country. Once again tears filled my eyes as I felt his love and respect.

11. There were so many other special things that happened today as I watched God at work in all of us throughout the day. It was truly a great day in the Kingdom of God as these 60 volunteers came together on one accord to serve these children. We exchanged love, friendship, fellowship and compassion. Both the Minnesota and Puerto Rico team asked if they could return in 3 years. Absolutely, I replied because we all had become “family” in just one day! I know that God is smiling and so are we!
