3. Academic Reading Read with a red pen in hand (annotation).
Entails carrying on a dialogue with the writer (agreeing, disagreeing, connecting).
Many students read passively, not actively.

4. Two Types of Annotation
Internal—inside of the book (questions, clarification, underlining, circling)
External—notes include information you can use
