I can define luminosity
I can read the H-R Diagram I can explain how the sun creates energy
2
A HOT, LUMINOUS gaseous body
What is a STAR? A HOT, LUMINOUS gaseous body So ... what is luminosity? Amount of LIGHT the star shines into space each second
3
I can define luminosity
I can read the H-R Diagram I can explain how the sun creates energy
4
Changes due to distance from Earth & because they emit more light
HOW do Stars DIFFER? 1) Size, Temperature and Age! 2) Apparent BRIGHTNESS Depending on how close they are to Earth Changes due to distance from Earth & because they emit more light Game RED SUPERGIANT WHITE DWARF

READING HR DIAGRAM 1. Luminosity compared to sun which is = ONE
2. Roughly 90% of all stars fall on a diagonal line across the diagram called the MAIN SEQUENCE 3. Temperatures DECREASE as you move to the RIGHT BLUE = HOT RED = COOL 4. Mass of stars is directly related to luminosity (MASS INCREASES then LUMINOSITY INCREASES)

15
The Sun The Sun is a mass of hydrogen and helium gas
The incredible gravity causes nuclear fusion, which creates all the Suns energy. Source of Earth’s energy.
