9 What is Systemic research? Goals : Dallos and Vetere (2005)
Collaborative research: To actively involve participants, colleagues, collaborators, managers, and purchasers in the development of the research protocol, analysis, results and dissemination. To do research ‘with’ rather than ‘to’ people. Emancipatory research: To empower participants, particularly as psychotherapy and mental health service users may have experienced discrimination, disadvantage or oppression. To promote a sense of liberation and to avoid contributing to feelings of blame or shame as participants. This study aims to explore the following questions 9

Sensitive research: To be sensitive to the meaning and experience of the participants’ connections with mental health services and of the research itself. To explore what was/is helpful and unhelpful Reflective research: To reflect upon the researcher’s own experiences and the connections with the project aims, interpretation of results and relationships with the participants. Do-able research: For the research to be practicable and connected to the researcher’s role as a clinician. This study aims to explore the following questions 10
