Advisors, please hand out your student’s transcripts at this time.
Students, after the transcripts are handed out we will be asking you to review your transcript carefully. Some things to look for are whether or not summer school classes, if taken, are listed on the transcript.
You will also want to check your grades and credit totals carefully. If you find an error or you have questions regarding your transcript, mark the changes on the transcript and return it to your Advisor, who will return them to the counseling center with the notations. Students, you should also talk directly with the teacher if there is a grading error.

3. Overview of the Transcript: Course Designation Keys (Codes)
I = International Baccalaureate: We do not offer IB classes
C = College in the High School: THS offers one Spanish class that can be taken for credit from the University of Washington
T = Tech Prep: THS offers several of these courses
H = Honors (ex. Freshman Language Studies, World Studies, Biology)
A = Advanced Placement ( ex. AP World History, AP Eng. Language)
R = Running Start: courses taken at a college
B = CADR/HECB Core: courses approved by the Washington Higher Education Board for enrollment in any public 4-year college/university in the state of Washington
K = Cambridge Program: not applicable to THS
Please NOTE: These are standardized codes used by all high schools in the State of Washington
The Course Designation Key is located in the upper left side of your transcript. Each code has a different meaning. This slide shows all of the codes with the definitions. Timberline does not offer International Baccalaureate or Cambridge Program at THS. The other designations, however, are a part of our program. Some examples of each of the designations are:
For College in the High School/Spanish IV
For Tech Prep: Digital Essentials I, iApps
For Honor’s: Honor’s Biology, Honor’s Freshman Language Studies
For Adv. Placement: AP World Studies, AP Literature
For Running Start: classes taken through a community or technical college while attending high school
For CADR/HECB: CADR’s are the minimum Washington College and University Admission Requirements.

4. What is on a Transcript? Courses taken Grade Point Average (GPA)
State Testing Standards (met/not met)
High School and Beyond Plan (met/not met)
Culminating Project (met/not met)
Washington State History Requirement (met/not met)
A transcript is the official record of the student’s high school enrollment and academic performance for each semester. The transcript includes all of these items.
Please note that ** the Washington State History requirement not been uploaded into our database yet. If you know you met the requirement in Middle School and do not see it on your transcript it is because they are being uploaded at a later time.

Freshman, you will not have a credit check sheet yet so this is their first time with this. Sophomores-Seniors: You should have been keeping track of these in your portfolios.

6. Credit Check Sheet
A credit check sheet is the sheet you use to keep track of your credits and which classes are needed for graduation. You will update these each semester in Advisory.

Pages of the Timberline Course Catalog shows what credit each class counts toward
***This matrix indicates which courses satisfy graduation requirements for Timberline High School only. For college entrance requirements, check the course catalog or see your Counselor.
In order to count as math credit; math classes need to be algebra I or above. Other math classes (pre-alg., etc count as elective credit). Classes with SUP codes generally count in the area indicated by the course name (e.-Resource Writing is an English).

11. Filling out the Credit Check Sheet
Using your transcript, check the boxes for classes you passed
EACH BOX = 0.5 Semester Credit
Please note: if a class counts in more than one area, you can ONLY use it once.
If you have completed one subject area, any extra course in that area can be placed in the Electives boxes
One EXAMPLE of dual-credit class is Digital Photo, which can count toward EITHER an Art or CTE but NOT BOTH.
If you have completed one subject area such as 2 years of science and take a 3rd year of science, the boxes you will check are the elective boxes.
If you retook a class and received a better grade, if you don’t need the credit you can have the higher grade count toward your GPA rather then the lower one. If this is your situation, please mark that on your transcript for your Advisor to give to the Counseling Center.
