Property- a characteristic (tells you something about the object)

Physical Property- property that can be measured or observed without changing the composition of the object (what it’s made of) Ask for one or two examples of a physical property

Extensive Property- a physical property that does depend on amount of substance (it will change if you have more or less of substance) Examples: mass, length, volume

Intensive Property- a physical property that does not depend on amount of substance (it will stay the same even if you have more of it) Examples: density, color, odor, luster (how shiny), melting/freezing/boiling points

Chemical Property- a characteristic describe how matter behaves in a chemical reaction. There is a change to the composition (what it is made of) See if they can come up with an example

Physical Change- a change that alters the matter without changing the composition- (it remains the same type of substance) Discuss the two pictures, why are the considered physical changes

Chemical Change- a change that alters the matter and does change the composition- (you get something new) Discuss the two pictures, why are the considered chemical changes.
