Irvington Public Schools MEDIAN STUDENT GROWTH PERCENTILE (mSGP)
Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) measure how much a student has progressed from one year to the next compared to peers with similar academic history from across the state in 4th- 8th grade English Language Arts and 4th -7th grade Mathematics. A teacher (4th-8th grade English Language Arts and 4th-7th grade Mathematics) receives a mSGP score if he/she was present 60% of the school year before the PARCC administration and has 20 students. For our special education teachers, multiple years of data might be needed before the total number of students is 20 or more. A student will only receive a SGP if he/she was present 70% of the school year prior to PARCC administration. A student receives a SGP score by being ranked against a set of students in a “peer group”. The peer group is established by the New Jersey Department of Education and represents students who have a similar standardized test score history. Students were ranked against their peer group based on their PARCC scores. A scale of 1-99 is used to rank students. The closer to 99 the better the student achieved in comparison to his/her peer group.
46
Irvington Public Schools MEDIAN STUDENT GROWTH PERCENTILE (mSGP)
A mSGP for a teacher consists of the SGP scores of all his/her students ranked in ascending order. The middle score (median) represents the mSGP for the teacher (mSGP is not based on an average).
47
Irvington Public Schools MEDIAN STUDENT GROWTH PERCENTILE (mSGP)
Teachers can receive a mSGP based on the most recent school year OR the median of the previous three years of students SGPs combined-whichever is most advantageous to the teacher. Once the median score is found, it is placed on a conversion chart and the teacher receives a score of 1-4. A mSGP score of 3 or higher is excellent and means the teacher is growing his/her students at a commendable rate. A mSGP score of is considered good. A mSGP score of 2.0 or below indicates the need for the teacher to reflect on differentiated instruction and student engagement strategies. Teachers who fall into this group will receive support as they strive to improve their mSGP

MEDIAN STUDENT GROWTH PERCENTILE (mSGP) Our results indicate that students are growing academically in our classrooms. This growth has not manifested itself entirely in our PARCC results because some students are far below grade level. But we are moving them closer to grade level and that is worth celebrating. WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD Every Student Succeeds Act (replacing No Child Left Behind) Proposal: Student Growth will be weighted more than any other factor in the school accountability system PARCC % mSGP % Chronic Absenteeism 10% Progress to English Proficiency (ELLs) 20%
