Clean up: Do you believe this beaker was washed? Me neither. Be sure to wash and dry glassware to get all particles out…even ones you can’t see!

Moving Milk
14
1) Pour enough milk to cover the bottom of a small plate.
Put two drops of each color of food coloring in the very center of the milk. Place them right in the same place on top of each other.
15
Dip a cotton swab right in the. dish soap. Let it absorb quite a. bit
Dip a cotton swab right in the dish soap. Let it absorb quite a bit. Then put the end of the swab right down in the center of the darkened part of the milk. Observe and record what happens. Hold the cotton swab right down to the plate and hold it there. Observe what happens now.
16
5). Use the other end of the cotton. swab and dip it in the dish soap
5) Use the other end of the cotton swab and dip it in the dish soap. Now place this on the side of the plate. Observe and describe what happens. 6) What do you think caused the colors to move?

"Like Dissolves Like“ Polar solutes will dissolve in polar solvents
Nonpolar solutes will dissolve in nonpolar solvents

QQ: Use Friday’s Document Authentication Lab data to
answer these questions. Explain why capillary action is important in creating the chromatogram. Which liquid moved the ink the fastest? What does that suggest about the size of its molecules? Think about the inks in water. Which of your ink samples were polar? How do you know?
