1 Directions Get out your cell city analogy “practice sheet” from Monday (widgets) Flip it over and read the back side Start brainstorming ideas (NO CITY!) while you wait for exemplary examples…

2 Assignment overview: Floating around in the cytoplasm of a cell are small structures called organelles. Like the organs in your own body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the cell to survive. In order to survive, the cell must be able to interact with its surroundings and other organelles, use energy, produce materials and manage waste. You will create a poster that compares a living PLANT cell and its organelles to a school, factory, ballpark, location, etc. The organelles will represent the parts of your place that carry out these processes. Your poster must include a creative title with the word “cell” somewhere in it. All of the “parts” should be labeled with the cell part and the analogy you chose to represent it (put parentheses around the cell part). Your poster must be colorful, neat and creative. Have fun designing your poster. Be sure to include all of the organelles listed on the back of the cell city analogy practice sheet. (widgets)

3 Cell Analogy Poster Task
Step 1: Select your analogy overall “theme” (A cell is like a….) (You may NOT do a city or town!) Step 2: Complete the cell analogy worksheet as a brainstorm…keep it brief! Step 3: Show teacher brainstorm chart to get it approved Step 4: complete “final” analogy chart with more detailed analogies described **GOAL: do 1-4 above by end of class Wednesday!!! STEP 5: IF NEEDED, sketch a QUICK rough draft of your poster idea (5 min. or less) STEP 6: once “final” chart is fully complete, pick up poster sheet & begin drawing Step 7: poster must have cell organelle & the structure labeled within your drawing *(no analogy description needs to be on the poster)
