Research Aims Methods Key Findings Key Findings
(MRes Research Project) Are the UK homes thermally comfortable in summer? Which homes are more at overheating risk? How building characteristics could affect the summer temperatures in UK dwellings? Methods Data Collection CaRB project dataset Ambient temperature data Data Cleaning Recording errors, heated homes! Thermal comfort assessment CIBSE static criteria BSEN adaptive criteria Key Findings Large proportion of LRs& BRs were at high temperatures for long periods despite cool summer conditions! Overheating was generally more problematic in the bedrooms! Top floor flats and recently built dwellings (post 1990) are significantly at higher risk of overheating! Key Findings Pre 1919 and solid wall properties are significantly cooler during summer! 7% of the dwellings in the nationally representative sample were heated! BSEN15251 adaptive thermal comfort standard may not be appropriate for the domestic application!
