ENVISIONING THE FUTURE OF THE GLOBAL CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAMME AND ITS FACILITATORS’ NETWORK Bangkok — THAILAND 6 to 9 March 2017

2 Recap Facilitators’ roles have expanded: Advising Providing content
Mediating Advocacy Raises issues related to framing of the facilitators’ role (identity) Facilitators becoming ‘implementation agents’ for the Convention

3 Recap Benefits and challenges of facilitators working in their own countries, within their region and across regions Network creating a narrative and a pool of experiences, knowledge and skills on implementing the Convention Ripple effect of CAP (networks creating new networks)

4 Recap How much framing/structuring do we need for facilitators and the network? How can we identify structures to ensure training of trainers activities at national level are replicated independently and sustainably

5 Ways forward for the CB Programme
Institutional capacity building Build institutional understanding of safeguarding ICH and sustainable development (avoid imposing concepts/jargon on communities) Identify suitable institutional partners to sustain the CAP Programme in countries Develop monitoring and evaluation mechanisms - Explore ways for the CAP Programme to address new challenges (post-) emergencies natural disasters, conflicts, long-and short-term etc.)

6 Ways forward for the CB Programme
Further expand the CAP Programme thematically to address challenges of implementation Enhance appeal/formats of training materials notably for youth Develop guidance notes approach for specific topics - Explore ways for the CAP Programme to address new challenges (post-) emergencies natural disasters, conflicts, long-and short-term etc.)

7 Ways forward for the network
Build further on the collective skills and experience of the network Group facilitators’ skills/competencies around key themes Adapt training activities for network members to address the expanding themes and roles (thematic and pedagogic)

8 Ways forward for the network
Seek partnerships, networks etc. to expand and sustain the CAP Programme Explore a framework for the network reflecting new developments and expanded facilitators’ roles Strengthen training-of-trainers activities at the national level with a view to run the Programme independently
