2 Objective Provide prospective instructors with the opportunity to learn and apply teaching methods and techniques for adult learners in the fire service. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

4 Instructor I Minimum 6 years experience with organized fire department
High school graduate Physical ability to perform tasks Completion of Fire Service Course Delivery Pass state test May teach courses in which they are certified Exact wording can be found in 69A (1) Explanatory note: Instructor I may teach Instructor I or Fire Officer I if they are certified in these areas. Just because they have taken other classes, they can only teach in areas where they hold certifications. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

5 Instructor II Same as Instructor I plus
Associates degree or higher Completed Fire Service Course Design May teach any class recognized by Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) that they can provide verification of successful completion of said class 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

6 Instructor III Same requirements and approved teaching assignments as Instructor II except Requires bachelor’s degree or higher No state testing required at this time Instructors may wish to note there is a Single Course Exemption which allows people with extensive background and expertise in certain areas to submit a request to be permitted to teach in that discipline. They must still complete Fire Service Course Delivery and meet the requirements set forth in 69A (4). 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

7 Triennial Renewal Successful complete 40 hours of approved continuing education credit related to instruction Or Successfully qualify for and pass the required state examination 69A contains information on qualification requirements for the various certifications. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

8 NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications – 2007
_______________________________ Together, current Fire Service Course Delivery and Fire Service Course Design meet or exceed requirements for NFPA 1041, Fire Service Instructor I & II Instructors should note that the text being used at this time uses references at the beginning of each chapter that are from an earlier edition of NFPA You should have a copy of the 2007 edition available to respond to any student questions. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

If you have never logged in, use the ff and your social security number (no spaces or dashes) and for your password, it is simply “password”. If it is an FSFC class there will be a registration line above the class dates, just click in and fill in the blanks. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

Please note: You may have classes that are not part of your permanent record. There are a variety of reasons for this and at this time, it is not something that can be changed. 23 Always select fire service
Name your class If your class is less than 4 hours a good description is usually all it takes. Over 4 hours, this space must contain an outline of the course. Always select fire service Once you do, you will automatically be sent to the next page Next screen is fill in the blanks Then hit save and it is submitted to BFST After it is submitted check you in-box for message confirming approval with a number and prefix assigned to it. This likely will only be done by Instructor II and III. Instructor I should likely only be doing classes that are already approved. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

24 An important note: many of you are doing “in-house” training and not getting credit for it in your permanent record. Submit them. It makes your record keeping easier. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

26 Now that you have a course approval and want to offer it,
Log in as instructor, apply, and then select “class approval request” Once you click the “add date…” it will allow you to “submit” Once you have class approval you can move on to the roster. 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

27 Be sure you are still logged in as “instructor” and select roster
Be sure you are still logged in as “instructor” and select roster. In drop down select “attendance roster detail” You must have your class offering ID – remember, you got that from your last slide. Enter it and click on “search” 2/23/2019 FFP 1740

28 Enter the student ID number
Enter the student ID number. If not available, the social security number will do. If you use ssn, once identified, it will show the student ID and not the ssn. If there is no student ID, a profile must be created. If all is well, the system will backfill the information. Ie:name, department, and phone 2/23/2019 FFP 1740
