The Girl’s Skirt This girl was thirteen and had been in the circus from birth. She had a skirt that she loved to whirl and twirl in. (She never wore shirts). She also liked to squirt water at birds – this made her smirk. Then one bird dropped its dirt on her skirt, which made her squirm. Suggestion on how to use: 1) Read the story to the children without them being able to see it. Ask them to listen for which sound they hear most often in the story? 2) Read the story again, this time with the children able to see it. Which sound did they hear the most? Which letters make that sound? (NB: Children should not be asked to read the story because it will include graphemes (letter strings to represent sounds) which they have not learnt yet.) © (Images © )
