Fig 1 (A) A doughnut-shaped bovine pericardial sheet (skirt) was sewn around the proximal end of the valved conduit. (B) Interrupted horizontal mattress sutures with pledgets were placed through the destroyed aortic annulus and the pericardial skirt. The interrupted sutures were usually tied over other pledgets to prevent bleeding from the needle holes. (C) Continuous sutures with 4-0 polypropylene were placed through the skirt and surrounding tissue. The white arrow shows the pericardial skirt.
