I. Natural Selection causes populations to evolve
There are other mechanisms that cause evolution: II. Mutation III. Gene Flow (immigration, emigration) IV. Recombination of chromosomes during gamete formation AND V. Genetic Drift – which are just chance events. Bad luck not bad genes! Examples: A. Founder effect – where a small segment of a population is displaced to a new area B. Bottleneck effect- a natural disaster leaves a few survivors (hurricane, fire, tornado, flood, etc)

To calculate allele frequency use p + q = 1 To calculate genotypic frequency use the top equation Round to the nearest tenth P = dominant allele frequency q = recessive allele frequency p2 = homozygous dominant frequency Q2 = homozygous recessive frequency 2pq = heterozygous frequency
