2 Larceny/ Theft Actus reus- Taking and carrying away of personal property (no force) Mens Rea- intent of permanently depriving the owner of it Keeping property without trying to find its owner Shoplifting

1st Degree BY FORCE– is armed and/ or physical harm results 2nd Degree BY FORCE Mens Rea- intent of permanently depriving the owner of property Considered a violent crime against a person A felony in MO

4 Burglary Actus reus- entry into a dwelling of another to take and carry away property Mens Rea- intent of permanently depriving the owner of it Includes “breaking and entering”

5 Arson Actus reus- burning or causing an explosion or damaging a structure belonging to someone else Mens Rea- intent of collecting insurance, or pyromania, or cover another crime

Harm does not need to be physical Blackmail– threat to “reputation” Mens Rea- intent is to make a person give up his/her personal property
