It’s your turn to be the teacher!
For this six weeks, I am going to let you guys take over the teaching. It will be your job to come up with a prompt that follows the “Read, Write, Share” model that we’ve been using all year long. First, you will choose a short story and a poem that are thematically or stylistically linked. Then you will write a prompt based on the readings. You can choose an element of author’s craft (please try and do one we haven’t covered) like Imagery or perspective and base your prompt on that. Or… you can just write a prompt that related to the theme of the stories. If you need examples, please check my website for the ones we’ve done in class.

A few suggestions! Pick a story or essay & poem you really love. Chances are if you love it, others will too. Start with the story. Poems by theme are easy to find. Do not use something you read in English class. Students don’t like reading the same things twice. Plus, I want to expose you to more works. Make sure your prompt is something that you could write. If you can’t do it then your classmates probably won’t be able to either. Feel free to make it fun! You can add fun activities to it as well as just the basic prompt. And since we’ll be doing them this six weeks, may as well make it entertaining.
