Findings from large epidemiological studies examining seasonal variations in cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related hospitalizations and deaths, providing like-for-like, global comparisons in terms of variance of event rates (from peak to trough periods per 100,000 population at risk of event per annum) across a range of CVD subtypes. Overall, these data show a predominance of winter peaks across a range of CVD subtypes, but with some spring and summer peaks in event rates linked to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in particular.
