3 Mental Math Students know the expectation – seated, quiet, and ready.
Mental Math should be started within about one minute of the “tardy time” NO TALKING during Mental Math Teacher will show/call out the problem long enough to read it through TWICE. Students should write ONLY the answer…not the problem or any calculations Don’t forget to simplify – or include units.

14 How can we describe motion?
REVIEW How can we describe motion? Motion can be described by: DISTANCE (length) TIME (min, seconds) SPEED (distance and time) DIRECTION (which way) ACCELERATION (change in motion) Speed up, slow down, change direction VELOCITY…speed and direction

17 Christy’s graph Students discussed using speed data (distance and time) to create a graph – and using the graph to illustrate a story of motion. All classes were given a worksheet telling a story about Christy’s trip to the zoo and should have used the information to create a graph.

18 Christy Christy wanted to visit the zoo, which is 20 kilometers from her house. To help her get there, her mother drove her to the bus stop 5 kilometers away from home and toward the zoo. The trip took 5 minutes. She had to wait for the bus for 5 minutes. Christy was reading on the bus and missed her stop. She finally got off the bus 10 minutes later at the next stop 1 kilometer past the zoo. It took Christy 15 minutes to walk back to the zoo.

19 Joey’s graph Joey waited 60 minutes while his family got ready to go to the beach. They jumped in the car and got to the beach 60 kilometers away in 40 minutes. They were at the beach for 40 minutes when it started to rain. They headed for home, driving the first 10 kilometers in 10 minutes. It was raining so hard that they cut their speed in half in order to get home. Homework!!! Create the graph for Joey’s story and have it ready by Monday. Be sure to use a straight edge to create lines. Do NOT just free-hand as it is not accurate.

Please be sure to put your NAME on it. Don’t forget to clean up the glue, scissors, and paper scraps.
