Collaboration The Journey to Today
Top down national targets plans not appropriate Challenge from previous NR CEO re rail safety performance compared to other sectors Realisation that industry approach not visible to newcomers or non duty holder stakeholders Cross-industry duty holder workshops to determine approach 8 months of drafting with dedicated resource from the RSSB, NR, AD Little Consultation and validation through RDG architecture throughout the process National launch RDG and RSG Reset the industry leaders meeting GC lead Different businesses = different risk profiles Stark realisation that although we were ‘safe’ we could do better and no-one could describe the arrangements nationally Conscious collaboration across industry and partnership RSSB/RDG Hue engagement with industry leaders and subject matter experts across the industry Collaboration

Where do we need to go next?
A potential black swan? System faults and failures… GB lead New technology coming on board. The railway today may be safe. The railway of tomorrow is a different railway. Complex risks need to be managed, and addressed further back in the supply chain. System Faults can be caused by software and cyber risks and their convergance. We don’t have good visibility? Our our tools good enough? Do we understand the problems well enough? Collaboration
12
Where do we need to go next?
Quantitative leading indicators Revisit risks and maturity Wellbeing to get more attention – the emotional human and financial cases for doing so are overwhelming Attention to job design / job aids Look for signals in the noise Better and easier ways to collaborate more and more often – create an industry Learning Legacy GC / GB joint?
