1 Today we’re going to talk about self-esteem
Today we’re going to talk about self-esteem! Who can tell me what self-esteem means? (Allow responses with hand raises) Great! Self-esteem describes the way we feel about ourselves. We can have high self-esteem and feel great about ourselves and our abilities, or we can have low self-esteem and feel not so great about ourselves. My goal is for every single one of you to have high self-esteem, believe in your ability to succeed, and be comfortable with who you are as a unique person. Today we’ll talk about 5 things that can help you to have high self-esteem!

2 There’s a saying that says: Be like a pineapple
There’s a saying that says: Be like a pineapple. Stand tall and wear a crown. How do you think this relates to self-esteem? (Allow responses with hand raises) Great! When we have high self-esteem, we stand tall, proudly showing off who we are with our heads raised high! Wearing a crown can sort of mean being yourself, showing off your unique qualities and being proud of those too. Today, let’s remember the word CROWN! It will help us focus on keeping our self-esteem high.

3 The C stands for “Character traits. ” What is a character trait
The C stands for “Character traits.” What is a character trait? (Allow responses with hand raises) Great! Character traits are the qualities that make us who we are. We all have different traits, and that is what makes the world a beautiful place.

4 These are just a few of the many, many character traits that are out there. Knowing what traits describe you and being proud of those traits is one way to honor your self-esteem. For example, I know that I am sometimes reserved, which is another word for quiet, but I am also kind to others. These are traits that describe me, and I am proud to be both of these things. There are other people who are competitive and humorous, which is different from me, and that’s okay! Being comfortable in your own traits is part of having high self-esteem.

5 The R stands for ”role I value
The R stands for ”role I value.” What are some of the roles that you have either at home, school, or in your community? (Allow responses with hand raises)

6 These are just a few of the many roles that you could have in your life right now. Maybe it’s important to you to be a big sister. Or maybe it’s important to you to be a member of your soccer team. Having a role that is important to you is another key aspect of having high self esteem. For example, one of my roles is “School Counselor.” I take a lot of pride in this role because I love working with students and helping them discover the best parts of themselves. Because I value this role so much, it helps me to feel good about myself and what I do. Allow students to share a few of the roles that are important to them.

7 The O stands for “Objectives I believe I can achieve
The O stands for “Objectives I believe I can achieve.” This means that you set goals for yourself and you truly believe you have what it takes to achieve them!

8 The W stands for “Will to succeed
The W stands for “Will to succeed.” This means that you have a mission and a purpose that you want to work toward and you don’t want to give up until you get there! Maybe your mission or purpose is to be a great basketball player! Or maybe your mission/purpose is to be a veterinarian. When you have a mission or purpose that drives you, you feel motivated and are less likely to be dragged down by negative things that happen because you have a forward-focus.

9 The last letter N stands for “Network of support
The last letter N stands for “Network of support.” Self-esteem is all about feeling positively about yourself as an individual, but something that can contribute to those positive feelings is feeling like you belong within a network of supportive people. These can be family members, friends, teachers, teammates, or any other people who build you up!

10 Let’s review our acronym, CROWN
Let’s review our acronym, CROWN! C: Character traits; R: role that you value; O: objectives you believe that you can achieve; W: will to succeed; N: network of support. When you have all of these things, you are building yourself up in a positive way to create positive self-esteem!

11 So when you think of self-esteem, remember to be like a pineapple!

12 Stand tall and wear a crown! Be proud of who you are!
