2 Figure 1 (A) Nomogram for the 4-variable MDRD Study equation. This nomogram should be used for routine creatinine methods that have not been recalibrated to be traceable to IDMS. The nomogram is mathematically identical to the 4-variable MDRD Study equation. The dotted line shows an example for a 40-year-old patient with a serum creatinine level of 1.3 mg/dL (115 μmol/L). The line connects the patient’s age and serum creatinine and the GFR is read out from the intersection with the interior scale. The left-hand reading should be used if the patient is a white man, while the number on the right-hand side should be used for a white woman. If the patient is black, the appropriate GFR value should be multiplied by In this case, the predicted GFR would be 65 mL/min/1.73m2 (1.08 mL/s/1.73m2) for a white man, 48 mL/min/1.73m2 (0.80 mL/s/1.73m2) for a white woman, 79 mL/min/1.73m2 (1.32 mL/s/1.73m2) for a black man, and 58 mL/min/1.73m2 (0.97 mL/s/1.73m2) for a black woman. (B) Nomogram for the IDMS-traceable 4-variable MDRD Study equation. This nomogram should be used for creatinine methods that have been recalibrated to be traceable to IDMS. The nomogram is mathematically identical to the IDMS-traceable 4-variable MDRD equation. The dotted line shows the same example as used in panel A and the same procedure is used. In this case, the predicted GFR would be 61 mL/min/1.73m2 (1.02 mL/s/1.73m2) for a white man, 45 mL/min/1.73m2 (0.75 mL/s/1.73m2) for a white woman, 74 mL/min/1.73m2 (1.23 mL/s/1.73m2) for a black man, and 55 mL/min/1.73m2 (0.92 mL/s/1.73m2) for a black woman.
