No Child Left Behind (2001) Bush’s signature piece of domestic legislation is the education reform bill, “No Child Left Behind.” It provided federal funds to states to raise their educational standards. Additionally, it required states to test their students in math and reading courses in grades 3-8 and at least once in high school (grades 9-12). Called for ‘Highly Qualified’ Teachers AYP and Growth in scores and data

He didn’t seem to catch the gravity of the situation and praised the people in the federal government (FEMA) who were making a bad situation worse. People charged him and his administration with incompetence, while New Orleans and parts of Mississippi faced one of the worst natural disasters in US history. The Great Recession Then the economy collapsed. (Poor W!) This shows growth by quarter (every three-month period) in the US. Look at 2008 and That’s the Great Recession. The reasons for it are complex and I can’t type that fast, so I can’t address them here. But there are a lot of articles and books about it if you want to research it. It was not all Bush’s fault (as of course Democrats argued) . It relates to long term trends, structural problems in the US economy, and regulatory trends going back to the Clinton administration that were continued or accelerated under Bush. But when you’re president, you get the blame.
