2 ARC’s purpose and vision
Our purpose is to improve the quality of life for people who have a learning disability by supporting anyone who is involved in the planning or delivery of support and services. To aim to enable/empower and influence real change that puts people with learning disabilities: at the centre of decision-making and in the heart of their communities

3 The ARC Timeline 1976 – ARC was formed - Association of Residential Communities for the Retarded 1982 – ARC was incorporated as a charity 1995 – Lisa White, our longest serving employee, joined us 1998 – ARC started to have a presence in Scotland and Northern Ireland 2001- UK Regionalisation Project started – opening ARC branches across the land Between 1982 and 1995 ARC was growing – gaining members and growing in reputation WDF – previous TSI (Training Strategy Implementation) fund.

2002 – CRB checks were provided by ARC 2002/3 – ARC started to administer WDF 2008 – our Qualifications Centre was re-located from Evesham to Chesterfield 2009/10 – ‘Safety Net’ was launched – pioneering work on ‘mate crime’ 2011 – Winterborne View – co-signatories to the concordat 2012 – 2015 – ‘Creating an Ordinary Life’ Active Support project

5 Did you know? Since 1996 we have been awarded £24m in project funding across ARC UK. Topics over the years include: National Induction Project Active Support BME Communities – Charter for Inclusion Money PA Net – Personal Assistants and PA Employers Safety Net – mate crime awareness WDIF – Training Peer Trainers Sexual Exploitation Awareness

(2) Between 2002 and 2017 we have dispersed nearly £9m in funding from DH/Skills for Care to Adult social care employers in England 2015 ARC England got its very own Director for the first time ARC England has 6.5 FTE staff in England Our E-newsletter, Real People reaches over 2500 contacts and stakeholders We have 116 members across England
