How you can support your child at home
Maths Literacy Children will complete guided reading and individual reading with the adults in school. It is also vitally important that they read with an adult at home regularly too. More information about our whole school reading incentive is on the next slide. They need to work on fluency and accuracy when reading but also need to be able to demonstrate a deep and secure understanding of the text. Please use the question prompts which are inside your child’s red reading record book and sign their book to show that they have been reading at home. Each child has an individual log-in. They complete tasks, games and assessments linked to the year group curriculum they are working within. They will receive certificates for gaining over 1000 points per week. One child per key stage will receive a certificate for being the ‘Mathlete of the Week’ for receiving the most points that week. We encourage children to learn basic number facts such as one more/one less and number bonds. These sheets are in the ‘Numbers’ sections on the year group pages on our school website. When children have completed a sheet 3 times, they receive a special lanyard in assembly and their photograph is shared on our school Facebook site. Handwriting Children are expected to neatly form and join their handwriting by the end of Year 6. We actively encourage children to form letters correctly so that they can join from as early as Foundation.

Reading Around The World!
Children will be encouraged to read three times with an adult at home each week. After doing this, they will receive a stamped/ completed bookmark on Friday morning. For each additional read, they will receive a house point. Each week we will ‘visit’ a new country and journey around the world as the year progresses. Your support with this would be much-appreciated. Please make sure that you sign your child’s reading record each time you read with them.

‘Beat your Score’ To help with maths fluency, your child will do BYS three times a week. They will have four minutes in which to complete their sheet. When they have done this three times (it does not have to be consecutively) without any mistakes, then they will move to the next BYS step. To celebrate their success, they will wear a BYS lanyard in Friday assembly and bring a certificate home to show you. The certificate will also tell you which BYS your child is doing next so that you can find it on the school website and help them practise at home.

Attendance Sharing Information and Celebrating Success
At Leigham Primary School we celebrate and reward good attendance. Good attendance is related to academic achievement and well being. Good attendance forms patterns for later life, so enabling pupils to become responsible citizens, and to achieve economic stability. Parents have direct responsibility for ensuring their child’s good attendance. Pupils who are late miss vital learning, and often this affects the whole day. Ensure that your child is at school every day unless: -Too ill to attend (not minor illness) -Hospital appointment (non routine) -Doctor’s or Dental appointment (urgent) -Agreed activity e.g. dance exam, national sports trials In the event of absence due to illness: Contact the school as soon as possible on the first day of absence Contact the school for each subsequent day of illness On return supply a written explanation for absence Unacceptable reasons for absence: Unauthorised holiday Birthday Shopping Routine medical and dental appointments which should be scheduled for holiday time Excessive medical absence which may need investigation Leaving early for a weekend away ‘Like’ our school Facebook page to see key information and awards. Look on the class page on the website to find out what your child is learning. Ensure that your contact details are kept up-to-date so that you receive text message updates and newsletters which are sent via .

Working Together Parent Forum Workshops Learning Together
You will receive termly invitations to our parent workshops. They have been very well received this year and are designed to help parents to understand how their children are being taught and to find out ways in which they can support them at home. They are interactive and informative sessions which are run by school staff in a friendly and welcoming environment. Please see Mrs Barker if you have any comments or suggestions about workshops. Learning Together You will be invited into school at different points in the year to celebrate your child’s successes; see their work and support them in the classroom. Each child has a target card for both literacy and numeracy. These are updated regularly by their teacher and will be shared with you during target setting parents evenings. You will receive a summer report in June/July and will have the opportunity to attend an open afternoon to see your child’s work. Parent Forum All parents are invited to attend our regular Parent Forum meetings. This is an opportunity for you to talk about your views relating to school. These sessions are really useful as they raise issues and give parents the chance to be involved in school development. This year the Parent Forum will be led by Mr Swainson/ Mrs Barker. Please contact them if you would like to be involved. Termly update sessions Instead of our weekly homework sessions, we have decided to introduce a termly update session. The aim of this session is to provide a brief overview of what your child will be learning that term and to talk through any key skills and strategies being taught. Staff will also help you to support your child at home and answer any questions you have about new concepts/topics.
