Contextual Safeguarding
Contextual safeguarding is an approach to safeguarding children and young people which responds to their experience of harm outside the home Significant for today’s conference, expertise of our guest speakers from the University of Bedfordshire

DSLs and file transfers
‘Receiving schools and colleges should ensure key staff such as designated safeguarding leads and SENCOs or the named person with oversight for SEN in a college, are aware as required’.

DSLs and file transfer ‘In addition to the child protection file, the designated safeguarding lead should also consider if it would be appropriate to share any appropriate information with the new school or college in advance of a child leaving. For example, information which would allow the new school or college to continue supporting victims of abuse and have that support in place for when the child arrives’.

LA issues relevant to education
Ensure that strategy discussions and core groups are consistently effective as forums for sharing information, identifying risks and prompting appropriate action. Ensure that the local authority designated officer is provided with an effective system for monitoring and recording allegations, one which facilitates external scrutiny.
