4 The Heart is the Heart of Marriage

5 Matthew 19:3-8 Some Pharisees came to Him to test Him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

6 Matthew 19:3-8 “Haven’t you read,” He replied, “that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female…”

7 Matthew 19:3-8 “…And said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh?’

8 Matthew 19:3-8 “…So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together let no one separate.”

9 Matthew 19:3-8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.”

15 Ephesians 4:29-32 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

17 Caring for One Another 1. Spend 10 minutes day caring for your spouse’s heart. 2. Take turns talking and listening to each other. 3. Pray together each day. 4. In conflict use “I” statements.

Caring for One Another 5. Remember, the only way out is through. 6. The answer will seem good to the Holy Spirit and to you. 7. Use the 9 words that can heal any marriage. “I am sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me.”

1. Choose to stay married for the rest of your life.

2. Make your relationship with your spouse your top priority (after Jesus Christ).

3. Act out love to experience the feelings of love.

4. Trust that God has a plan and that it works.

23 How God Heals our Damaged Hearts

24 Isaiah 61:1-4 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
