What is suicide?
It is the act of a person consciously and deliberately ending their life.
It is different from:
Assisted suicide – where a doctor or other person helps the death along because the person is physically unable to kill themselves.
Unintentional suicide – where someone kills themselves without meaning to e.g. by taking an overdose unintentionally. This is usually called ‘accidental death’.

The Samaritans
Main charity in the UK who works with people who are considering suicide.
It was set up in 1953 an Anglican vicar, Reverend Chad Varah.
He gave out his phone number for people considering suicide and was overwhelmed by calls.
This was the beginning of the Samaritans.
