Fig 1 Immunohistochemical detection of diagnostic MC infiltrates in a patient with SM-CEL. A bone marrow biopsy section was stained with an antibody against MC tryptase. As can be seen in the figure, compact infiltrates of MCs indicative of the presence of an associated SM were detected in tryptase-stained bone marrow sections. These infiltrates were surrounded and intermingled by infiltrating eosinophils and lymphocytes. Fig 2 Eosinophil counts and serum tryptase levels in the follow-up period in patients with SM-eo. Absolute eosinophil counts (upper panel) and serum tryptase levels (lower panel) were serially determined in patients with SM-eo during the follow-up period. The initial 42 months of this period, which revealed a relatively constant range for both disease-related parameters, are shown. Fig 3 Probability of overall survival and event-free survival in patients with SM. In patients (pts) with SM and permanent eosinophilia (SM-eo; n = 9) and those with SM without eosinophilia (n = 54), the probability of overall survival (A) and event-free survival (B) was calculated. The differences were found to be significant (P < .05).
