MCRA Mechanics Spring 2008 Rule Reminders

Yellow/Red (soft red) Cards NEW
Second caution. Excessive celebration Teams may substitute. Red/Yellow Cards displayed together. Report Required for ALL RED CARDS!

Card Mechanics Change rule 5-3-1 (2007-08)
If a coach or bench personnel is being disqualified for a subsequent act of misconduct, the referee will show a yellow card immediately followed by showing a red card. When players are yellow/red carded, cards are displayed together.

Equipment Responsibility rule 4-3 (2007-08)
Head Coach Responsible for ensuring that each player is properly equipped. Inquire before game at pre game conference. Penalty: Improperly equipped player(s) must leave field at next stop of play. Head Coach Shall be Cautioned for improperly equipped players.

Team Placement Guidelines rule 1-5-3 (2007-08)
Placement of Teams If placed on opposite sides of field teams will be diagonally across from each other.

Goal Guidelines rule 1-4-1 (2007-08)
Portable goals should be anchored at least 2 yards in front of the base of existing football goalposts. Weights should be at LEAST 3 ft from goal line. If not anchored we don’t play!!

Playing Shorthanded If a team elects to play shorthanded due to caution or injury the substitute may not enter until next legal opportunity. Pg If playing short the injured player may re-enter at the next stoppage of play.

Mercy Rule Guidelines MERCY RULE: first half completed with
8 goal differential . Game considered complete if half is completed.

Reminder -Jurisdiction of Referee Points of emphasis
Jurisdiction of referee starts 15 min prior to game and lasts until they vacate immediate surroundings. Immediate surroundings include: officials locker room, parking lot, all areas in between. “Once final whistle blows, unless instructed otherwise by the governing authority, the official should verify the score and exit the site of the competition.” Do not stay for handshake.

Weather Conditions Delaying a game When to delay – guidelines
Lightning OR Thunder 30 minute delay. Time delay to be restarted with each new occurrence. - clear field of players and field personnel. - advise spectators, not responsible. Suspension for scheduled games: (officials guide book guidelines) 10am to 3pm should not exceed 3 hours. 3:01 to 6:59 not to exceed 1 ½ hours. Games 7pm or later not to exceed 1 hour. *If all parties involved agree on non-school day to delay more than 90 min, it is approved by our State Association.

Overtime (follow insert) regulation 5 - coin flip (golden goal) Shoot out 2 - coin flip *all players eligible unless disqualified Fourth official duties Focus on duties, not visiting with table personnel

Improving your game during the match
**Follow yellow insert for tourney rules** Have Detailed Pre-Game. Check for subs at every opportunity. Eye contact with A.R’s whenever possible. Stop clock immediately for P.K or Cards (adjust clock when needed)

Season Game Times Varsity 40 minutes J.V 35 minutes
Freshman *35 minutes Remember to call ahead to check on game time & location. If team doesn’t show wait 30 min. If notified we must wait one hour – shorten game when needed.

Current Rate Fees 2008 Varsity 3-Man: Referee - $44, A/R - $34
JV: $39 9th: $37 Remember many schools are paying with vouchers.
