1 TA1 – SD has the mandate to provide support and perform developments in
the field of Solid state Detectors This comprises wire bonding and die attach thin film technologies (mirrors, optical filters, …) photodetectors (CsI, HPDs) silicon detectors, focused on radiation hardness issues (RD50) irradiations

2 During the last ~10 years, the irradiation team (Maurice Glaser, Michael Moll, Federico Ravotti) has performed radiation experiments involving several thousand samples, incl. preparation, under bias, with readout, dosimetry, storage, packaging, cold shipping… Our section is involved in radiation hardness studies (RD48, RD50) with the aim to develop ultra rad hard tracking detectors. There is a significant amount of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in radiation related effects and dosimetry. There exist well established links to other groups in the domain, irradiation facilities and the SC/RP people at CERN.

3 Some irradiated samples

4 Each LHC experiment wishes to monitor its radiation levels !
(Active) dosimeters can be very useful devices in the very early phase of an experiment (dirty beam conditions, not all detectors fully commissioned or understood). Parallel developments / calibration / construction / maintenance of relatively simple devices like dosimeters would not be economic and efficient.  Let’s do it together ! Let’s have good links to other groups working on similar problems like Beam Condition Monitor, RAMSES, LHC rad. monitoring etc.
