The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in BC protects everyone's personal identity and information. It prevents organization and institutions from selling your personal information to marketing firms It also protects your privacy from scammers and criminals FIPPA For students and teachers in BC

8 By Law... We have an obligation to protect your privacy.
If we want to publish your work on the internet (or ask you to do so), we must obtain written ‘informed’ consent first. We cannot store any of your personal information on servers that are located outside of Canada without prior written consent. G Suite for Education is entirely stored outside of Canada (much like your personal Gmail account, hotmail, yahoo mail, facebook, youtube, twitter, instagram, snapchat, iMessage, etc.)

9 All of these are on foreign servers
Mostly in the US ...there are many more!

10 What is the big deal about foreign servers?
By storing files/images/personal information on foreign servers, the data is subject to laws of that foreign country. Example: Any data that is stored on US servers is subject to the US Patriot Act (amongst other US Laws) which allows the US government to search through the data on those servers. Not a problem if you have nothing to hide, but some deem it a breach of privacy.

11 Furthermore, some providers data-mine to sell information for targeted advertisements:

12 How many of you currently use one of the previously mentioned services?

13 Welcome to the 21st century! This is Web 2.0

14 We are not saying don’t use those tools
Just be informed about them and the data laws that apply!

15 Your @sd72.net account has some benefits:
Google does not data-mine G Suite accounts Google protects the privacy of G Suite users as best as they can (federal laws still apply) Google does not use any information held within a G Suite account for marketing (that’s a bonus!) Google does not sell your personal information.

16 You also have unlimited storage in Google Drive!
Personal vs. GAFE You also have unlimited storage in Google Drive! Personal accounts are maxed out at 15GB
