Athenian Empire After the Persian Wars, the Athenians joined with other city-states to form the Delian League. Sparta was not part of this alliance.

Athenian Empire The Delian League promised to defend its members against the Persians Eventually the delian League freed most of the Greek cities under Persian control.

Greeks depended on farmers to grow grain, fruit and vegetables Herders raised goats and sheep for wool, milk and cheese Athenians had to import grain because the land did not support enough grain production

Men worked in the morning, then exercised and attended meetings of the assembly In the evenings men attended all male gatherings where they dined , drank and discussed politics

Women’s life revolved around the home Girls married at 14 or 15 Poor women may work in the fields with their husbands or in the markets at the agoras
