National English Honor Society
Kingwood High School Chapter

What is NEHS? Honor Society similar to NHS but for English
Confers distinction among high school students for high achievement in English language arts Encourages interest in English language arts Serves the local community by fostering literacy Promotes exemplary character and good fellowship between members

Membership Requirements
Must have attended KHS for at least one semester Must have completed two previous semesters of any level English Minimum overall grade average of a 3.0/4.0 Minimum English grade average of a 3.0/4.0 Can be taking any level of English to join

Member Responsibilities
Required to go to mandatory club meetings Required to attain a minimum of 3 points per year to remain in good standing (2 for you guys since joining at semester) Points can be earned through participation in club-sponsored events such as book drives, workshops, or seminars; members will be promptly notified for point opportunities

Why Join? Interest in English language arts
Great for college applications Graduate with cords Academic distinction Scholarship essay opportunities Participation in English-related activities

Dues A one time payment of $20 is due upon acceptance into NEHS ($10 of it is required for the National English Honor Society, the other $10 is club dues) Cords dues for eligible graduating seniors are still TBD

Membership Applications
Applying for 2nd semester of school year Fill out membership application form Turn the forms in to Ms. Sandvick in room 2311 Applications due by Friday, November 17th at 4:30pm Late Applications will not be accepted Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted within 2 weeks after Thanksgiving break An Induction ceremony will be held for those who are accepted
