India the Land of Small Farmers
India’s average operational landholding is less than 2 hectares, with a majority of the farmers being Small or Marginal landholders. 85 % of farmers in India are Small and marginal Farmers Research, extension, literacy and infrastructure have been identified as the most important sources of growth in farm productivity all of which are technology driven today. Irrigation becomes difficult and costly on such small and fragmented fields.
