Napoleon Corpse Instructions Due at the end of class on Monday, 2/1
You are going to perform an “autopsy” on Napoleon to determine his “cause of death” aka his fall from power. This will be an assessment grade. You must include 5 causes of death that relate to Napoleon’s downfall. Each cause of death must have a related picture drawn and a brief explanation (2-3 sentences) of why this was a “cause of death” aka reason for fall. Let’s look at an example!

“Causes of Death” for Ivan the Terrible
Cause of Death 2: Swollen brain Ivan went crazy, so he must have had a swollen brain. He even ended up killing his son and was very hated for his violent ways. Cause of Death 1: Broken Heart Ivan had a broken heart because his beloved wife died. Many think this was a turning point because he blamed the boyars and became violent. Cause of Death 3: Broken Foot Ivan had a broken foot because he stepped all over the boyars/nobles. They hated him.

Brainstorm five reasons for Napoleon’s fall from power Hint: Look back through your notes!! Hint: Pick the ones you and your partner think are most important!

Step 2: Translate these reasons into “causes of death” with a partner
Find a way to relate each reason for Napoleon’s fall to a common “cause of death” Let’s brainstorm some common causes of death!

Step 3: Perform the “Autopsy”-on your own!
On your Napoleon “body,” come up with a symbol for each “cause of death.” Draw it on the part of the body that would be affected. Label each cause of death as shown on the example. For each cause of death, write a 3-sentence explanation of how this relates to Napoleon’s downfall. Include historical details for full credit

Step 4: What Might Have Been
Get back with your partner! One the back of your autopsy, brainstorm three things Napoleon could have done differently to keep him from “dying.” Work with your partner to come up with detailed & creative solutions!
