UCLA Community Oral Health Program
OUR GOAL Community Oral Health Workers Project (COHW-P) Our goal is to help reduce the burden of dental disease in young children in the Los Angeles County by reaching out to parents and families. Train and support 10 caregivers/parents to become Community Oral Health Workers so that they can provide local oral health promotion workshops to other caregivers of young children. We hope that these trained caregivers and parents will pursue careers in public health, community health, dentistry or similar fields. Module 1: Into. To COHW UCLA Community Oral Health Program

Your role Your job is to attend all workshops Be ready to interact and discuss with other parents You will be trained in the following areas: Diet and Hygiene Health Literacy/Insurance Knee-to-knee exams And much more… You will be paid a total of $2,000 dollars to complete this training At the end of the training we will work with you to find a local partner you can use your skills to teach caregivers/parents like you about their child’s health Module 1: Into. Some Objectives we will cover today
Promote oral health in pregnant women and newborn children Understand basics of community oral health and the role of the COHW Discuss the prevalence and sequence of oral disease. Review basic oral anatomy and characteristics of healthy vs. unhealthy teeth. Recognize the various stages of ECC on oral examination by lifting the child’s lips and simply looking. Promote prevention of ECC through use of fluoride, proper hygiene, diet, and appropriate dental referral to community services. Module 1: Into. To COHW UCLA Community Oral Health Program
