2 Figure 1 Current and Potential Treatments for Type 2 Diabetes
(A) Anti-diabetes drugs reduce blood glucose levels by acting at a variety of organs and tissues involved in glucose homeostasis; GLP-1, glucagon-like peptide 1; DPP-4, dipeptidyl peptidase 4; SGLT2, sodium-glucose co-transporter-2. (B) Rusu et al. found that a set of variants in the gene-encoding monocarboxylate transporter 11 (MCT11) impaired cell-surface localization of the protein by reducing its interaction with a chaperone protein, Basigin. Their work suggests that drugs that rescue MCT11 activity could be useful in the treatment of T2D. Cell  , 12-14DOI: ( /j.cell ) Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions
