2. Room 101
This television programme is based on an idea in the famous novel 1984 by George Orwell. In this room, you confront your worst fear. In the programme, celebrities have the chance to put their pet hate into the room and banish it from their lives for ever if they can persuade the presenter it belongs there. Prepare a talk to try to persuade your fellow mentees of something you would like to see banished from existence. As a challenge, see if you can spot the persuasive language used in the example that follows and try to use some in your own talk.

Have you ever hated something with such a passion it makes you shake? Has a day, week or month ever been ruined by the appearance of one grotesque abomination? Have you ever taken your body to the limit of all it can stand? I have. And it hurt. That’s why I’m never going back. That’s why I want the evil, vicious devils that are Brussels Sprouts banished from the world. I’m not going to lie, deceive or mislead you – this violently vile vegetable needs to go.
