Legislative Branch (Congress) - Makes the Law Executive Branch (President) – Enforce the Law Judicial Branch (Supreme Court) – Interpret the Law

Article I - Legislative ( Can declare war, propose amendments) Article II – Executive (President – Veto’s Bills, Commander and Chief of the military) Article III – Judicial (declared laws, executive actions unconstitutional) Who is the “father of the constitution” – James Madison

Role of a Federalist – Someone who favored a strong constitution
Role of an Anti-Federalist – someone who opposed the constitution / wanted a Bill of Rights. Amendment Process- to change or alter the constitution. Federalist Papers – they were written to promote and support the positive benefits of having a strong constitution. Rule of Law – No one is above the law

Preamble – the introduction of the Constitution. Contains the purposes and goals of government. Separation of Power – Each branch is separate and has its own individual roles and responsibilities. Bicameral – Two Houses Unicameral – One House

Congress – Legislative Supreme Court – Judicial President – Executive

The 3/5 Compromise counted 3 out of 5 slaves for representation in the House of Representatives.
The Great Compromise was an agreement about how to our government was to be represented in Congress. The agreement by which Congress would have two houses, the Senate (where each state gets equal representation-two senators) and the House of Representatives (where representation is based on population).

The purpose of the Bill of Rights? To protect us from the government.
What are the Bill of Rights? Rights and Liberties granted to the citizens of the United States. Commerce – Business and trade

2ND AMEND – PROTECTS THE RIGHTS TO CARRY AND BEAR ARMS 3rd AMEND – NO CITIZEN SHOULD BE FORCED TO QUARTER SOLDIERS IN THEIR HOMES 4th AMEND – PROHIBITS UNREASONABLE ARRESTS AND SEARCHES 5th AMEND – PROVIDES FOR THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS ACCUSED OF A CRIME

9th AMEND – STATES PEOPLE HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THAT ARE NOT ADDRESSED IN THE CONSTITUTION
10th AMEND - SAYS ALL POWERS NOT GIVEN TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ARE KEPT BY THE STATES OR THE PEOPLE
