3 George HW Bush and the End of the Cold War
Collapse of Soviet Power was rapid after the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Bush continued efforts in Nicaragua by reintegrating the contras into society and voting out the Sandinistas. US Policy aided in the end to apartheid in South Africa There were protests in the Bush Administration after Tiananmen Square in China, but no major differences in policy

4 The United States as a Hegemon
We were the sole superpower for the first time in history. Iraq invading Kuwait led to US involvement in The Gulf War would last six weeks. Economy began a decline that would cause Bush to lose the election in 1992.

5 Bill Clinton “It’s the Economy, Stupid”
Baby boomer president. A centrist president, he advocated for middle class reforms, and eschewed the high spending and welfare of previous democrats. His major focus initially was economic progress. Endorsed NAFTA Improving economy led to unemployment at its lowest point in years, and a general economic climate that was favorable to businesses.

9 Modern Era and Political Policy
Right to privacy- The United States Supreme Court identifies a constitutional basis for a right to privacy that is protected from government interference. Roe v. Wade Riley v. California (2014) digital information on cell phones. Equal rights- The Civil Rights Movement of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s provided a model that other minority groups have used to extend civil rights and promote equal justice. Loving v. Virginia (1967) Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona (2013) Rule of law is a principle under which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to the laws. Gideon v. Wainwright (1963) Snyder v. Phelps (2011)
