Secondary Outcomes in Relation to Left Ventricular Unloading During VA-ECMO The association between left ventricular unloading during VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock and secondary outcomes was assessed using a random effects model. Left ventricular unloading during VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock was associated with increased rates of hemolysis (RR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.49 to 3.11; p < ). The rate of bleeding, limb ischemia, renal replacement therapy, multiorgan failure, and stroke or transient ischemic attack were similar between patients treated with VA-ECMO with versus without left ventricular unloading. TIA = transient ischemic attack; other abbreviations as in Figures 1 and 3. Juan J. Russo et al. JACC 2019;73: 2019 The Authors
