Bark Petition 1963
2
The Yirrkala bark petitions 1963 are historic Australian documents that were the first traditional documents made by Indigenous Australians . They were the first documentary recognition of Indigenous people in Australian law. Summary of proposed actions - How are we trying to achieve it? There will be an emphasis on Australia’s Indigenous culture(s) and then on first peoples from around the globe. In the initial stages (our project for 2011) we are planning to explicitly involve students in a global classroom where they will interact with people who are of the first people of their nations – first within Australia. The communities that will be involved are Wathaurong (Victoria), Ltyentye Apurte (NT) and Willuna (WA) and then with other First Nation people from Canada (Toronto) and New Zealand (Auckland).
