Photosynthesis
2
If plants do not have the same structures as animals to eat food, how do they grow and survive?
3
On all areas of Earth… You may observe plants growing and surviving. You may observe animals using plants for their own food (energy). You may observe animals eating the animals that eat plants.
4
Animals rely on plants for their energy (food).
Animals rely on animals that eat plants for their food (survival). Plants rely on themselves for their own energy (food).
5
In order to produce their own food, plants need:
Two natural chemicals: Water Carbon Dioxide Sunlight (light energy)
6
When plants make their own food using water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight, they produce two main chemicals: Sugar ( chemical energy/food) Oxygen The sugar helps the plant grow and survive. It is also eaten by other living things. The oxygen helps other living things breathe.
7
Green plants are constantly using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide…
…to make sugar and oxygen. This process is called…

Photosynthesis “Create using light”

Molecule: Extremely, extremely tiny building blocks of chemicals.
