2 Term: Point of View The way an author sees a topic or the ideas being described. The author’s point of view includes the language used to describe their beliefs and feelings about events in the text. (This relates to diction). I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is told from first person point of view. The author tells the story from her perspective using pronouns “I,” “me,” “my,” etc.

3 Reviewing Author’s Purpose
The main reasons for an author’s writing In fiction, the author’s purpose is often found in the story’s theme or message. To determine the author’s purpose, ask the following questions: What significance might this event have? Why does the author include this detail?
