Mission Founders The person who found this mission was a man named Father Fermin de Lasuén who found the mission on December 14th.

Mission History The Santa Barbara Mission began approximately 13,000 years ago with the arrival of the first Native Americans. The Spanish people came in the 18th century to occupy and Christianize the Native American’s area and it became part of Mexico, following the Mexican War of Independence.

Mission Agriculture Their mission agriculture had 13,732 animals and a lot of crops including garbanzos, berries, strawberries, broccoli, vegetables, and other kinds of crops. There are also different animals too, like cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, mules, and horses.

Mission Life The people who lived at the mission where the Chumash Indians, soldiers, priests, and the Native Americans. The priests were there to teach religion and the Indians where there to work. They adapted well to their religion, but took time to learn their religion. That is their daily life in the mission.

Mission Tradition The tradition that they do every year is that they have a fiesta. They dance at the fiesta and they eat. They have a lot of fun there and the party lasts a long time.

People of the Mission The people who lived there were the Chumash Indians, soldiers, priests, and the Native Americans. The Native Americans were called the Barbareño and the Spanish found them as good people and extremely skillful and intelligent. The priests taught religion and the Chumash worked.

Mission Geography The Santa Barbara Mission is located in the 2201 Laguna St, Santa Barbara, CA It is near the 101 Freeway. It is also near the State Street and the Laguna Street.
