Welcome “Everyone knows that reading widely closes the gap in attainment between children from different ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. Children who read a lot learn new words, discover new worlds and think about new ideas. The more they read the more they learn.” Ruth Miskin – founder of RWInc Phonics Programme and MyBookBlog

What is MyBookBlog? Secure online resource designed to support and enhance children’s reading through a wide selection of stories. It encourages children to share their views on what they have read with others. It builds children’s confidence in reading therefore promoting a healthy attitude towards reading. It confirms and extends children’s understanding of what they have read through fact files and quizzes.

Why years 3 & 4? Children will have mostly graduated from the ‘Read Write Inc’ phonics program with the decoding skills to read confidently at their level. We want to increase children’s stamina for reading so they become more confident readers and learners. We want to broaden children’s book choices through a variety of authors and genres. We want to instil a positive and supportive reading culture in our children.

Your support Reading with your child at home is vital in promoting a healthy attitude to reading. Our expectation is that children read at least 5 times each week. Given the pull of technology in children’s lives we need to be more creative in the way we motivate children to read. MyBB does this but we all need to pull together. Download the MyBB link onto your device and share the enjoyment of reading with your child.

Next steps for your child.
It is presumed that all children will be able to participate unless we are advised by you. You will need to confirm whether you want to receive updates on your child’s progress through s. Next steps for your child. Children will be issued with their unique password. Children will carry out an initial quiz to set their Challenge Guidance Level. Children will be guided through a full blog by class teachers.

Monitoring and supporting.
Teachers and myself will monitor and respond to children’s weekly progress through the teacher portal. Children who cannot access the blog at home will be invited to join a lunchtime blog session. Children not accessing the blog regularly will be invited to join a ‘Blog Surgery’ to keep them on track.
