Men's basketball coach Dean Smith, who coached the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for more than 35 years, taking them to two national titles, has died at age 83. The Hall of Famer died Saturday night at his home in North Carolina. "We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as arrangements are made available to the public. Thank you," the statement said. Smith coached the Tar Heels from 1961 to 1997, going and retiring as the winningest coach in [men's] college basketball history. North Carolina won NCAA championships in 1982 and 1993 and reached the Final Four 11 times under Smith. He coached Hall of Fame players, including Michael Jordan. Smith even coached the U.S. Olympic team to the gold medal in "Roy Williams, the current North Carolina coach who spent 10 years as Smith's assistant, said Smith 'was the greatest there ever was on the court but far, far better off the court with people.‘” Smith had many supporters throughout his lifetime achievements. "He graduated more than 96 percent of his players and taught his teams to point to the teammate who passed them the ball after a basket. In Other News "Shocked and frozen." Those are two words that Mark and Ismini Svensson say perfectly describe their families' reaction to their unique wedding plans. Instead of having a typical ceremony, complete with cake and family photos, the couple chose a different path: To celebrate their love by sharing good deeds across the country with people they'd never met. For past two years, the newlyweds have been spending their wedding budget to perform one act of kindness in each of the 50 states. The Svenssons plan to complete their mission this spring. "We were actually planning a big wedding reception and honeymoon," Ismini says. "We realized that our way of celebrating our love would be different, and we came up with 50 Acts of Giving Back." For Ismini, the idea of sharing goodwill in place of a wedding also became a special way to honor the legacy of her father, a civil engineer and philanthropist who taught her the importance of making a difference. 2015 Grammy Winners Album of the Year - Beck, Morning Phase Song of the Year - Sam Smith, "Stay With Me“ Record of the Year - Sam Smith, "Stay With Me (Darkchild Version" (WINNER) Best New Artist - Sam Smith Best R&B Performance - Beyoncé featuring Jay Z, "Drunk In Love“ Best Pop Solo Performance - Pharrell Williams, "Happy“ Best Country Album - Miranda Lambert, Platinum
