Objectives/Agenda Objective: 4.1, B.4 Review Topics: Agenda
Types of Oscillation Describing Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) Graphing SHM Energy of a SHM Damped Oscillations Types of Damping Forced Oscillations Resonance Agenda Summary groups for white boards White board presentations Exercises for practice
3
Whiteboard Groups In pairs, prepare a review board (or two or three) for one of these five topics 1) Definition of SHM (Conditions, Graphs, Examples, Relation to Circular motion) 2) Variables of SHM (Period, Amp, Frequency, Displacement x and , Approx. conditions for simple pendulum, Sinusoidal graphs of x, v, a related) 3) Energy considerations for SHM (Where in oscillation are max and min of K and U, graphs of exchange of energy vs x) – Groups 1 and 2 work together. 4) Definition of Damped Oscillation (Energy considerations, Calculate and interpret Q, Types of damped motion and how to determine) 5) Forced Oscillations (Definition, Relative motions of top and bottom of a Forced pendulum, Resonance, Amp vs f Graph including damping issues, phase vs f graph)

Exit Slip - Assignment Exit Slip- Where within an oscillation is the oscillating particle moving the fastest? Describe using both a general term and in terms of a fraction of the period if the displacement of the particle can be described by a cosine curve. What’s Due on Aug 17? (Pending assignments to complete.) Complete the 4.1 and B.4 exercises Complete the Safety Contract by Aug 21. What’s Next? (How to prepare for the next day) Review Chapters 1 and 2 to prepare for Mastery Quiz Day
