2. Let’s talk Dates
In 1682 the Spanish Mission of Corpus Christi de la Ysleta was established and in when the war between Spain and France was over the Spanish government regained control and relocated back to east Texas. Finally, in Mission San Jose was completed in San Antonio.

3. Spanish Missions & Presidio’s
Spanish missions were initially built to claim land for the Spanish in Texas. Most Missions sprung up around Rivers and Most Major Towns sprung up around Spanish Missions. The Spanish became concerned when they noticed the French trying to colonize Texas as well. The Spanish missions were initially viewed with suspicion because the Native Americans at times perceived the Spanish as a threat. Unfortunately the biggest Negative effect of the Spanish Mission system proved to be Disease. Diseases that would only make Spaniards mildly ill proved to be extremely deadly to the Native Americans. The difference between a Spanish Mission and a Presidio is the Missions had a church and barracks for the Indians to live in. The Spanish Adapted to the Environment by becoming farmers.

When the French had initially stolen chickens in what was known as the chicken war, the Spanish Retreated from the east Texas missions and France Monopolized The Northern & Eastern Regions. After this Spain does win the race for Texas when France cedes Louisiana.

We known that the Coastal plains were Suitable for farming because they have large flat land suitable for farming. As a result of all of this flat land and excessive rainfall Another great Industry started from the Spanish Missions was Ranching!
